The history of Ras Al Khaimah stretches back to the cradle of civilization, with artifacts and archeological sites discovered that demonstrate an advanced trading links with Mesopotamia. The settlement that came to be Ras Al Khaimah was known by several names throughout history, including Julfar and Al Seer. Benefiting from a unique location on the Straights of Hormuz, Ras Al Khaimah has attracted visitors from across the Orient and Africa for over 1,000 years, it’s strategic importance was also a catalyst for turbulence, demonstrated by the eighteen historic forts and fortifications in the Emirate.
